The OneBAT project participated in the PREPARE-EU 2026 Workshop “Translating European Expertise to Pandemic Preparedness”, held on 28–29 April 2026 at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, Germany. The event gathered researchers, institutions and European initiatives working to strengthen pandemic preparedness and response capacities across Europe.
During the workshop, OneBAT contributed with three scientific posters and one oral presentation, showcasing the project’s ongoing activities and latest results related to zoonotic surveillance, bat-associated viral threats and pandemic preparedness.
Among the contributions presented, partners shared work on harmonised eco-virological surveillance in migratory bat populations, rapid and sensitive detection methods for Lloviu virus RNA, and approaches aimed at improving understanding of viral emergencies originating from bats. The project presentation highlighted OneBAT’s multidisciplinary and One Health approach to understanding, predicting and preventing viral emergencies linked to bat populations.
The workshop represented an important opportunity to exchange knowledge with experts from across Europe and to foster collaboration with other projects and stakeholders active in the field of infectious diseases, surveillance systems and preparedness strategies.
OneBAT’s participation in PREPARE-EU 2026 further reinforced the project’s commitment to supporting coordinated European efforts towards improved preparedness against future zoonotic and pandemic threats.
