The 16th edition of the Workshop for Rabies was held on 10–11 June 2025 in Maisons-Alfort, France, at the National Reference Laboratories for Rabies hosted by ANSES. The two-day event brought together leading researchers, institutions and laboratories from across Europe to discuss the current status and challenges in rabies surveillance, control, and prevention.
Among the highlighted speakers was Paola De Benedictis from the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) and scientific coordinator of the OneBAT project. On June 10, she delivered a presentation titled “Investigating lyssavirus spillover from the endangered M. schreibersii”, showcasing OneBAT’s ongoing work on bat-related virus surveillance and cross-species transmission risks.
This intervention not only offered valuable insights into the project’s research activities but also served as a powerful opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of monitoring lyssaviruses in wildlife and endangered bat populations.
The workshop also provided an excellent opportunity for networking and dialogue, connecting national and international stakeholders working on zoonoses, wildlife virology and One Health approaches.
